The Club was founded in May 1998. Believing that children Under 10 were too young to play in eleven-a-side matches, an opinion later endorsed by the Football Association, Team Managers (Peter Guy and Gary McLean) formed the current Whittle Hall Junior Football Club. The Club was formed and entered two teams to play seven-a-side football in an alternative league to the Warrington Junior League. The two Leagues have since united and now play under the banner of the Warrington Junior Football League. At that time our players were entering their Under 10 Season.
Peter Guy was elected Chairman of the Club and Barry Bowers Secretary. The primary focus of the Club was, and still is, playing the game in the right spirit. The first group of players didn’t pick up a caution until they reached Under 15 level and even then it was only one in the whole of the season. Our aim is to provide a game of football, wherever possible, for all youngsters regardless of ethnicity or ability. Another founder member, Steve Pennington, drove the expansion of the club.
In September 1999, an Under 8 Team was started and the majority of players stayed with us until they had completed the Under 16 season. The 2003 crop of players included five young ladies. The last of them left the club in May 2009 to play in an all girls team in Runcorn.
September 2005 saw the formation of an Under 12 team. September 2006 saw the formation of an Under 11 Team. In 2008 we formed our first ever Under 7. Since the early days in 1998 we have been fortunate. Many people / parents have helped and supported us. Volunteers that have given up their time, not only on match days, but also on training nights and in all kinds of weather. The reward for all their hard work is the opportunity to see the kids of all ages enjoying themselves and their football. Thank you to all of them.
